Courtyard

courtyard and fountain

Passing through the gates just off Bella Drive, you curve on a circular drive to the front door of the main house. A feature of the courtyard is a beautiful fish pond with water lilies. Landscaped under Rudolph Valentino's supervision, many plants native to Italy are imported to improve the grounds and turn the Spanish style house into an Italian Villa.

Falcon Lair Fact
The Courtyard and drive has changed little over the decades.  The small fountain remains, although in a different form with a cherub in the center rather than the birdbath.  The wall hiding the walkway from the kitchen area to the servant's quarters is now open.  That change likely occurred during the time when either Juan Romero or Doris Duke owned the property.
